My first time handling a camera in
school, I ended up making a fairly good stab at a silent picture. I adapted a story I had
written in Junior High School (which I won a writing award for) about a man who gets an
assignment to write a book within a weekend. When he goes home, he feeds continuous paper
into his typewriter, which types the story for him. When the book is three-quarters done,
it demands a blood sacrifice from him. He is apprehensive, but finally succumbs. He drops
off his manuscript to his editor on Monday, after he leaves, the editor removes a pen
which starts correcting page after page on its own, while we end the shot with the editors
arm all scarred up. I still get amazed at all that can be read into a simple short film.
Honestly, I can say I had no ulterior motives when I wrote the story or screenplay; it was
just a stupid little, "Look, its twilight zone-esque!" kind of a movie.
