Treatment for Story: The story centers around the character Jacob. Jacob is about
25 years old and lives a life quite uncommon from us. He never leaves his house. He is no
different from you and me. He is scared of people, can't relate to individuals, has no
real communication skills, and is a legend in his own mind. But he wishes to change.
Living at home all the time can cause a man to go crazy, so to give him a change of
scenery, he imagines an alternate reality where anything could happen. When he plugs into
his little computer, he is like God. He can make it rain. He can make people do things,
for it is all in his head. A person could get lost in the not-too-far-from-the-future data
highways if it wasn't for a sort of visualization. And what would communication be without
being able to ever see the person?
Amy, a young, vibrant, nice girl enters his life and sort of turns it upside down. He is
very attracted to her mind (but only if he saw her in person?), and his little life of
seclusion opens up to an innocent relationship turned into passionate love in his mind.
Can he finally get it together, to be able to come outside of his little world and join
the rest of humanity?
What unfortunately destroys his hope of coming out is himself. His own doubts and
insecurities ruin what little chance he has of having any type of normal, healthy,
relationship with the person actually there. The subconscious is a strange land. One that
nobody can explore without coming out different. Some type of self preservation holds him
back to where he is safe and secure, inside his house and chained by his mind (and
computer).
The way the story is told is very unconventional. It is hard to create to realities and
lapse in between both at any given moment. The real world is harsh looking, very focused.
The minds world is gray, shadowy, twisted, blurred, distorted. So Jacob's computer reality
is not bound by laws and truths and math even though the computer is a scientific
instrument. The computer in Jacob's world is a passage, a tool, for his entire being. With
that tool, gravity is meaningless. Jacob's alternate reality is surreal and strange, yet
playful. His real world is uncompromising and harsh. When those two worlds collide,
anybody would be confused as Jacob is.
Note: I wrote this script being both screenwriter and director. So sometimes things aren't
as explained perhaps as they should be, because since I know the story so well, I
sometimes take things for granted. So, try not to be confused when reading the script,
there are answers for all aspects of the story.
Scene 1
INT-Night. We are in Jacob's room. It is starkly lit, and we cannot see too much of
the walls. They are drab, white, but with the lack of light, are almost pitch black. The
carpet is a plain industrial looking shag, with dark stains of dirt scattered throughout.
In the center of the room is a table. The table has the computer on it. A tall monolith
case with cables of all types coming out of it. The monitor is to the right, poised
slightly upward, with a baseball cap on it. It almost looks like a head of a person. To
the left of the computer are stacks and stacks of other equipment. An oscilloscope on the
bottom, a shortwave radio above that, a tape recorder, a tuner, and a soldering iron. The
speakers are placed somewhere off the table. In front of the stack of equipment are
papers, stray wires, a half-soldered pc board. A dirty girly magazine lies in the ranks.
Jacob enters. He is an average looking guy, not stunningly handsome, but surely attractive
in his own right. He has brown hair slightly askewed, and his posture is slumped. From
looking at him, you'd assume he is 20, but is really 25. He has always been a late
bloomer. He looks down at his fly, and pulls it up, then fastens the button on jeans. He
walks over to the computer, and pushes the button on. He leans over the monitor reaches
around and flips the switch. He sits down in the comfortable chair. Cut to...
Scene 2
INT-Night Car. Same shot that we ended with in scene 1, Jacob in a business suit. His
demeanor is of authority. The driver sits up front in the wheel, Jacob in the center of
the back seat.
Driver
Where to, sir?
Jacob
Umm, the cavern...
Driver
(happily)
Yeeeesssssssirrrrrr.
The car pulls ahead in the traffic, darting forward.
Scene 3
INT-Jacob's room. The flesh lovingly glides over the keyboard in a dance-like fashion.
The digits of the fingers are curled slightly forward as the hammer on the keys in a
unmistakably pronounced rhythm. The screen of the computer is filled with lights of yellow
and blue as he commands every screen. The words do not concern Jacob for he knows what
they are saying by instinct. He is beyond them. He dazes unfocused into the tableau of
light. The computer makes loud, guttural moans as he types. The hard drive rumbles. Then
it goes silent. Everything goes silent except for the 15khz squeal of the monitor. Jacob
breaks out of the trance, listens, and with pensive look on his face, reaches over and
turns the radio on. Static fills the air, and his head now returns to the screen, but his
left hand fiddles with the tuning. He finds a station he can handle, and returns typing.
The screen displays:
Communicator v5.6
He types... the screen now shows:
Dialing, THE CAVERN
Scene 4
EXT-The Cavern. The joint is jumping. There is a long line to get into the club.
People look impatient. Jacob's car pulls up to the front entrance. Jacob gets out and very
confidently walks up to the bouncer. The bouncer at first treats him like everybody else.
Bouncer
Do you have the password, sir?
Jacob
Vosotros.
Bouncer
Great to see you again, Jake.
Jacob
The pleasure is all mine, Daniel.
Jacob walks in. A man right on line moves up to Daniel.
Man
How come he gets to go in without waiting, Daniel?
Bouncer
Daniel?! Don't you ever call me that again, you little piece...
Scene 5
INT-Cavern. Loud music is playing in this club. The club doesn't have crazy lighting,
or many people drinking, just sitting and talking to each other. Where there is a dance
floor, there are people talking in a huge group, back and forth. Jacob walks with a
determined stride, self-confident. Liked. People of various types all greet Jacob. He just
smiles and walks past them. They all talk highly of him. He opens a door in the back of
the club. As he passes through, his business suit changes into more leisurely clothing. He
walks over to the small group that is sitting in round in the middle of the room. The room
is very gray, and the people are wearing very dark clothing. It is filled with
nothingness. There are many shadows, and one bare light above the circle. The only
furniture in the room are the chairs that the people sit on. As the people talk, it is
very unemotional. They do not have much expression on their face. As Jacob sits in the one
chair left for him, one individual starts to laugh. It is a hollow, empty laugh, almost
non-existent. He stops laughing abruptly and starts to speak.
Man
Well, I have problem with Assembler too, it's hard thinking that linearly. You can only
break down instructions so far, you know.
Scene 6
INT-Jacob's apartment. On the screen types the words of the man in yellow print. Jacob
types, and his words appear on the screen: You just have to think logically, and leave
nothing to chance.
Scene 7
INT-Cavern. Jacob speaks
Jacob
...logically, and leave nothing to chance.
Man
I know, but, it's so hard breaking down every action we do into little tiny parts. You
have to get from point a to point b, but you have to describe each tiny step, not to
mention to breathe in and out at the right time, to blink your eyes, everything.
Another Man
So I just got Recton Six, what a great game...
Jacob
Sure, but just plot it out and you will be okay. Just make a physical chart and keep
looking at it to remind you. What are you programming anyway?
Some other Guy
It was okay, but Recton Four was superior in content if you ask me, more levels, more
characters, granted not as good graphics
Twitchy kid
Did you see that movie, Shards? They were trying to show a computer that could read 8 inch
disks, and played it off like it was normal!
Man
Yeah, I'll try that. Uhh, it's kind of a program to simulate, well, its' still developing.
No shit about Shards, huh? What the hell do they think we are, stupid?
Another Man
C'mon, the graphics alone take up somethin' like ten megs.
Corner Man
I got a promotion today.
They all together congratulate him.
Corner Man
Thanks... I got moved up to a service rep.
Twitchy Kid
What's that?
Corner Man
You know... I.... Represent
Another Man
How long did you have the other job?
Corner Man
Two years... the pay raise is like an extra fifty dollars a week, with much more pressure.
The door opens up and a slinky, long legged woman comes in wearing a nice skirt and a
revealing top. She walks over to the circle, and another chair appears for her to sit in.
She sits down.
Jacob
You guys are so stifled, though. At least I work for myself, I'm at least free to program
any way I want to. It's just easier working at home. You know today, I woke up when I
wanted to. When's the last time you can say you did that?
Corner Man
Yeah, you got it made... but you
know, its' hard out there...
Jacob
Hello Amy... How are you doing?
Amy
I'm fine Jake, and yourself?
Jacob
I'm okay. (to everybody) Well, I got a job offer today by Microtech, but I turned it down.
The guy respected that. So he boosted his asking offer for a program I'm writing for him.
See, they want what they can't have.
Twitchy Guy
Pretty neat there, Jake.
Scene 8
INT-Jacob's room. He sits back and rubs his eyes. He is a little tired. He raises his
arms out, stretches and resumes typing.
Scene 9
EXT-Outside. Less people are around. Jacob is speaking to Amy. He is fidgeting with a
piece of paper.
Jacob
So... yeah... I've been through that before. But it really doesn't matter in the long run.
Amy
You know, you're real different.
Jacob
(startled)
Huh?
Amy
You're not like the rest of the men here at the cavern.
Jacob
Oh. Well, you know... I'm just who I am.
Amy
What do you do for fun?
Jacob
I dunno. I'm always on the computer here. Fun and work.
Amy
Workaholic, huh?
Jacob
Yeah. Guess so.
Amy
Me too. I'm always working on something.
Jacob
Yeah. I know what you mean.
Amy
It's nice.
Jacob
What?
Amy
Typing to you.
Jacob
(smiling, blushing)
Oh.
He puts his hand and reveals what he was working on. He gives her a paper flower.
Amy
Thank you.
Suddenly. Noise. Lots of noise interrupts the silence of the club. Jacob is puzzled.
Scene 10
INT-Jacob's room. On the computer screen are the words of the previous conversation.
Jacob, confused, looks at the radio. He apologizes to Amy on the screen. He types out:
Sorry Amy, something just came up... Gotta go. See ya later.
He gets up out of his chair, and leans over the radio. He starts checking the connections.
He pulls out every individual wire. He examines them. They all look okay. He listens
intently. He looks very disturbed. The radio is spewing out very peculiar noises. Nothing
decernible. Harsh, trebly noise. Jacob looks quite confused. He unscrews the radio
chassis. He peers inside, but sees nothing wrong. He takes out a little pencil-like
device, and starts prodding the complex web of wires. He takes out the device and looks
flabbergasted. He doesn't understand. He screws back the chassis. He sits back in the
chair and stares at the radio. It seems to loom forward. The noise ceases.
Scene 11
INT-Day/Night? Jacob is well-rested and sitting at the chair. He has papers lying all
around him and on top of him. The light streams through the window, lighting the drabness
of the room. The radio is playing and the dj comes over the air.
DJ
It's 10 o'clock in the morning here and if you haven't woken up yet, your boss is gonna
yell at you. But if you have, then you heard that great set of music I just played...
The voice sort of drones out and Jacob is now typing slightly. The monitor says at the
top: Assembler Programming Language Editor. The screen is filled with many words and
numbers that seem indecipherable. Jacob is looking dead in the monitor. He types some
more. The flow-chart lying next to him has some info written on it: Twenty digit
Cryptological Security Door. Jacob looks towards the keyboard.
Scene 12
EXT-Daytime. He is in the middle of a field. He is wearing heavy clothing, dark. He
places a toolbox he is carrying onto the ground, and opens it up. There is an array of
tools there. He picks up a screwdriver. He then extends the screwdriver towards the camera
as it arcs around him, revealing a door in the middle of the field. No building, just the
door. He tries picking at the knob with the screwdriver. No luck. He tries now a hammer.
He slams the hammer on the door. It does not move at all. He takes a sledgehammer. He goes
full back and lets his entire weight go into the tool. The swing is incredible, and knocks
hard on the door. Not one budge. Jacob smiles widely.
Scene 13
Deleted.
Scene 14
EXT-Forest. Jacob is running free in this nature wonderland. He puts his feet into the
water of the river, placing his hands in and wetting his face with it. He runs more. He is
playing with the leaves. He is climbing the trees. He is having fun. He yells and screams
joyfully as he skips on the rocks near the waterfall. He keeps going at full speed and
finds a spot which he likes. He starts clearing up the ground. He puts down some concrete
slabs in a straight line. He seems to have a bit of pride in his work here, as if it was a
great piece of art. He works carefully but quickly. As he puts down another block, the
noise comes back. Loudly. Cut.
Scene 15
INT-Jacob's room. In lightning speed Jacob's hand extends like that of a cheetah
leaping out into the air. Jacob hits record on his tape recorder. He looks very intently
at the screen, then the speaker, then the tape recorder. The room seems to be spinning as
he listens to the harsh, metallic noise. And for one second, one split second. A fraction
of a second, he could have sworn he heard the noise say Jacob.
Scene 16
INT-Cavern. Jacob is speaking to some people.
Jacob
Was anybody listening to 95.3 last night or today?
Corner Man
Nope.
Man
No. Wait... Yes... Today I was.
Jacob
Did you hear any noises come over the station, like some kind of interference?
Man
Nope... Can't say that I did... but I wasn't listening closely. Why?
Jacob
Oh... nothing... I think maybe something was wrong with the transmitter, maybe it was my
set.
Amy
What happened?
Jacob
Some kind of noise overloaded my radio real bad... Real harsh sounds.
Man
Like how harsh?
Jacob
Gritty... sounds like computer noise... but it never happened before.
Man
No help... sorry...not technically inclined.
Amy
Well, I figure out distortion in electronic componets all the time, maybe I can steer you
in the right direction.
Jacob and Amy are now alone in the room, everybody disappeared. Amy is in different
clothing.
Jacob
But I have no idea what it is.
Amy
Well. Did you try equalizing it?
Jacob
No... not yet. I'm afraid to touch it.
Amy
Heh heh. Just make a copy of it. Work on the dupe of it and everything will be fine.
Jacob
Okay, lets say I equalize it, then what?
Amy
Try flipping the phase, and then you will be able to get to the things underneath.
Jacob
Flip the phase?
Amy
Yeah... switch the positive and negative on the speaker
Jacob
(impressed)
How did you learn all of this?
Amy
You know... It's my job. I had to learn it. I'll give you a program so you can do it all
on the computer.
Jacob
All right. Great. You're really talented, you know.
Amy
Thanks. I don't get many complements from guys here on my work. Most don't know even know
what I do. They're just impressed that a girl is around.
Jacob
Why do you hang out here so much then...? If you don't mind me asking...
Amy
Well, I love to meet people. I didn't mean to sound like I don't like the users here, I
do...
Jacob
Me too... It's so hard to find others out in the other world. I'm just trying to meet the
right person.
Amy
Any luck?
Jacob
Maybe.
Amy
Well, good luck. I hope the person is as nice as you are.
Jacob
Well... I guess I better take the program. Meet me here later?
Amy
Sure, here's the program.
She hands him the disk.
Scene 17
INT-Jacob's room. It seems like night now, and Jacob looks very frustrated. Flash of
Amy smiling. He puts his head in his hands, and then looks up at the light of the lamp. He
exhales heavily. The pain is written on his face. He bows down once again. He reaches over
and plays the tape again. The noises are less dense now. The metallic edges have been
polished out, but the unclarity of it is still intact. He swoons over and puts his head
down on the desk. The Tape faintly says "Jacob? Jacob?" plus some undefined
words.
As he looks up, a loud knock is heard. Jacob gets up quickly. More knocking. Jacob looks
around, runs his hands through his hair quickly. He picks up an envelope on the desk and
walks to the solid door. More knocking. He slightly opens it with the chain still on. He
looks through, notices the man, and then hands him the envelope.
Delivery Man
You want me to bring it in?
Jacob
(quiet and nervously)
Just leave it outside.
Jacob closes the door. He waits for a few seconds. He hears the delivery man put down
the package. The delivery man walks away. Jacob quickly opens the door, takes the boxes
and drags them into the room. They are filled with groceries. Cereal pops out of the box,
bread and marshmallows on the top. He moves it near the computer. He opens up a bag of
cheeze doodles and starts munching on them right away. He fishes around and finds what he
wants. A can of coke. Jacob opens it up and drinks furiously. He seems to be tired. Jacob
looks out into empty space.
Jacob
Do you want some?
Out of nowhere Amy appears. They just sort of stare at each other. He glances over her
body. She looks into his eyes. She does not say a word, or motion, she just looks
completely in love with him, yet seperated by her distance, there is a wall between them.
Suddenly something drops from the top of the radio, and starts the sound at full blast.
Jacob looks up startled. Amy is not in the room. He looks down at the space where she was.
He has a lonely, sadness on his face. The tape has decernible voices, just no meaning. He
slowly reaches over to the tape and turns it off. He stares out into space. What is he
looking for? He glances the entire room. He gets up from the chair. He walks over to the
edge of the desk and picks up the telephone. He slowly starts to dial. He gets a firmer
grasp of the receiver. The ring of the telephone from the handset stings his ear.
Voice
(womans)
Hello?
Jacob
Hello.... I... just wanted to talk
Voice
Who is this?
Jacob
I just needed to hear another voice than my own.
Voice
(stronger)
Who is this?
Jacob
You understand, don't you?
Voice
What number are you trying to reach?
Jacob
Don't you?
Click. Jacob stares into space, visibly upset. He places the handset down slowly on the
telephone.
Scene 18
INT-Jacob's Room. Time has passed. The room is more of a mess than it was. Food
wrappers are spread all over the floor. Jacob is lying on the floor, eyes dazed. He is
listening to music. Cut. He is eating. Cut. He is dancing. Cut. He is running around the
room. Cut. He is writing. Cut. He is reading some notes of his. Cut. He is soldering part
of a circuit board. Cut. He is staring out. Cut. He is looking at the porno magazine. Cut.
He is typing. Cut. He is rubbing his face. Cut.
He's staring at the blank, black screen. He types "communication" on the pad.
The hard drive whirls. The screen turns blue, and then a screen pops up.
"Communicator v5.6" He types in the word "cavern". We hear the sound
of a dial tone (low) and then some dialing. On the screen we see "Dialing THE
CAVERN". The screen goes clear.
Typed on the screen:
Welcome to the CAVERN, the computer chat line link. Type /H for help.
Suddenly on the screen we see typed:
Johnny: heheh, ya, I got that program... it's real neat
Rick: Do you think bill is gonna release that new version or what
Sgt. Fury: Can't believe that they yanked that program off the air
Claus: Wanna go into another room, Johnny? Anybody else want to?
Michelangelo: Hey Jake.
Jacob types: Hi Michael... have you heard Amy anywhere?
Michelangelo: Yeah... think she's in the back room.
Jacob: Thanks...
Jacob types /room 5
Screen types back: You have entered the back room. Type /H for help.
Jacob: Amy?
Screen types back: Hi Jake, how are u?
Scene 19
INT-Cavern.
Jacob
Fine... I need to talk... don't mean to interrupt.
Amy
Oh.... okay.
Man
No problem, I was going to say goodbye anyway. Gotta go to sleep. Good night Amy.
Amy
Nite. (touches man's arm)
Jacob
Sorry.
Amy
It's okay. What's up.
Jacob
I have been pulling this thing apart, but I am at a brick wall again.
Amy
Oh... Well, don't let it get you down... you'll get it.
Jacob
I really appreciate all the time your spending with me on this.
Amy
Don't worry about it. It's no problem. I have a book here that could really help you.
Jacob
Thank you. I'll take anything I can get.
Amy
Well... how's everything else?
Jacob
Well, I've been editing it...
Amy
No, I mean besides that...
Jacob
Oh, Well, empty I guess... Haven't had much time for anything else besides programming.
Amy
Yeah... I know what you mean. It's sometimes so hard working all the time. You get kind of
cold.
Jacob
Yeah... I suppose you do. Wish I had some time away from all of this.
Amy
Well, when's the last time you took some time off for yourself?
Jacob
Jeez, I don't know... I can't really remember.
Amy
Well, where would you like to go?
Jacob
Outside.
Amy
Outside?
Jacob
Uh... yeah...outside, anywhere... I always wanted to work outdoors by myself.
Amy
What would you want to do?
Jacob
I don't know... something to do with parks, enviromental engineer or something like
that...
Amy
Why don't you do it?
Jacob
No, I can't... I never went to college.
Amy
So? You seem intelligent enough...
Jacob
No... I'm stupid... I'm just lucky I can do what I do now.
Amy
Stop that... that's no way for you to type. Well, anyway... why do you want to be alone?
Jacob
Did I say that? Oh, uh, I just meant where I wouldn't have a boss.
Amy
Oh... Okay.
Jacob
I can't anyway. What about my work here? I have to be close to the city...
Amy
Don't you work at home now, anyway?
Jacob
Yeah... but, I... wouldn't be able to meet anybody in the country.
Amy
Why not? You're very personable, you'd probably be the most popular guy in the town.
Jacob
Nah, not me. I'm a little up and down for most people to understand.
Amy
Well... I think I understand. It's nice talking to you, Jake.
Jacob
It's really Jacob.
Amy
Jacob... That's nice. It sounds so, I don't know. I'd like to meet you one day in the real
world... so I can put a face and a voice to all of this text.
Scene 20
INT-Jacob's room. The last line is typed on the screen. Jacob types on the screen:
Well, maybe we'll meet one day.
Screen types back: Well, I do have this book that could help you with the recording...
maybe I can drop it off?
Jacob types back: Sure, why don't you do that?
Screen: Okay... How about tomorrow at 8?
Jacob types: Sure, stop by.
Screen: Alright, see you later!
Jacob: Bye
Screen: CONNECTION TERMINATED.
Jacob looks happy, but as he looks around the room, he notices how messy it really is. He
is about to get up, but then sits down, and turns on the tape.
Tape
Jacob.... Jacob... Do you really think..... Are you sure.... Won't... Can you face...
He looks at the tape. He doesn't look surprised, he has a sort of a blank, staring
impression on his face. He slowly gets up and starts cleaning as the tape has half noise
and half voices on it.
Scene 21
EXT-Jacob is in nice clothes. He is outside. He is crouched down on the ground,
underneath a tree. He is alone. He looks out. He suddenly looks very happy and Amy
appears. Her hand outreaches, he takes her hand. The people from the club appear, and
separate the two. Jacob looks upset, Amy looks confused.
Scene 22
Deleted.
Scene 23
INT-Jacob's apartment. He has a glaze over his eyes, like he was daydreaming. He has
nice clothes on... not the one he was wearing, but better garb than he normally wears. He
looks as if he is swooning. He slowly puts his head down.
Scene 24
EXT-Red House in forest. He is wearing the same clothes, and he has a clipboard in his
hand. He looks at the front porch, pushes it slightly, and marks something down on his
pad. He opens up the door of the porch, surveys it, and then opens the door to the house.
Scene 25
INT-Red House. He enters, looks at the living room/kitchen he is in, smiles, and
writes down gleefully on the pad. He sits down on the worn couch. A man is sitting
directly opposite of Jacob.
Man
Whaddya think?
Jacob
It's just like I thought it would be.
Man
Yeah?
Jacob
Yes. I really could live here.
Man
Well, you designed it.
Jacob
And it can interface with all of the existing programs I have?
Man
Yes.
Jacob
I didn't catch your name..
Man
People call me Bug.
Jacob
Bug.... hmmm... Well, Is this operating system flawless?
Bug
Well, maybe not flawless, its' still missing something... but you can operate without it.
Jacob
Oh, and what is it missing?
Bug
Wish I could tell ya, but all I do is test it for faults, and there are no real faults,
except one.... sort of like a hole... but you can patch it up.
Jacob
Where is it?
Bug
I don't know. But really, you did a great job here. This operating system is one of the
first programs I have de-bugged, heh, that's really tailored for a person. Real
functional. You can always add on, no problem there, and a nice location for you, too.
Jacob
Great... where do I sign?
Bug
(reaching over with a paper)
Right here, Jacob.
Jacob signs this paper and hands it back.
Jacob
We're done, right?
Bug
That's right, Jacob... I'll be leaving in a second.
Jacob
Wait, Bug... now that we got all the paperwork cleared up, can you tell me what's it
missing?
Bug
No, I really don't know. But he does (motioning over to another room).
Jacob gets up and goes to the other room. It is dark, and there is a person in
silohette in the background. Jacob looks cautious as he enters.
Jacob
Hello?
Figure
(Same voice that is on the tape)
Hello Jacob.
Jacob
Bug told me you can tell me what's wrong here.
Figure
I can... but you really know what's wrong.
Jacob
What?
Scene 26
INT-Jacob's apartment. Jacob is sitting. Nicely dressed. He is wearing different
clothes than he was in Scenes 24 and 25. He is holding a pad, with writing on it. It says
on the top Jacob's Operating Background System. In the middle of the page in large print
it says "Bugs?". On the screen the type says: DEBUGGER, JOBS, with a ton of
numbers and letters written below it. At the bottom it says: "1 bug found. Error not
identified."
Jacob looks depressed. He shrugs it off, turns off the computer and puts away the pages.
Knock. Knock. He looks sick, and runs into the bathroom coughing. Knock. Knock. Knock.
He comes out wiping his mouth. He looks quite nervous. He cautiously goes up to the door.
He is struggling with the decision. His hand tenses up severly, and his face starts to
sweat. He looks away from the door. He is indecision whether or not to open it up. His
hand grabs hold of the knob, opens it up, and a flood of white light.
Scenes 27-30
Deleted.
Scene 31
EXT-Red House. Jacob walks into frame wearing leisurely clothing. He walks near the
front porch, and Amy opens the door. She smiles. She comes down, puts her hand on his
chest, his arms clasped around the small of her back as they embrace. They both smile. The
Noise comes in loudly, but they do not pay attention. They hug each other warmly and enter
the house. He goes over to a cabinet and opens it up. Inside there is an old victrola, and
he puts on a dusty old record. He cranks up the player, and puts the needle down onto the
ancient shellac disc. Crackles fill the air, but when the music starts he feels the air of
music warmly. The song plays for a bit. She kisses him on the lips and they start dancing
to this waltz. He is quite light on his feet, and the move with the grace of birds flying
in the spring air. He looks so different here with her. He looks so... strong. She looks
like she is in love, and there is such an expression of admiration and love in the curves
of her cheek.
THE END
