Lomo Compact Automatic Camera

The lomo is a wonderful and strange russian camera, that has quite a cult following now. I can't quite recall how I came across the little guy, somewhere on the internet I presume, but when I saw the prices for this little thing, I couldn't believe it!The Lomo Society was selling them for well over a hundred and fifty dollars, on ebay, forget it, just as expensive. What's the deal with the little bugger? Well, first off, they are no longer manafactured. Second of all, they are a neat little gadget! About the size of a pack of cigarettes, it has a manual focus lever that you guesstimate where your subject falls under four settings, and an automatic shutter. You can put it in a manual f-stop mode if you choose, but the auto shutter is the selling point; it will take pictures no matter the light. This of course means shaky pictures if you aren't on a tripod in low lights, however, the size of the lomo as well as the easy going nature of it makes it fun just to snap loads of pictures. Take them inside a store, outside at night, whatever! Using a 400 asa film, you can get quite usable range of light sources, and the color balance of the lens is quite remarkable, much like its; cousin, the lubitel. People are so dedicated to this camera, that they always sell for a high price on ebay, and there is a club dedicated to the Lomo that has a membership of like, twenty thousand people. The whole idea of the Lomo is to just snap and take the picture, just document the moment. Shoot lots of pictures, and often, and especially of just day to day events; life is the event, every day, and should be preserved just as much as special occasions deserve.
