Past Jobs

Production Coordinator

I was a production coordinator for several cable networks, and my job was to oversee on-air promotions, sales tapes, special project that need someone to oversee a piece of video from conception to completion. When a commercial for a show needs to be made by the team I was with, I was assigned the project. I conferred with the client and made sure they get who they want to produce the piece. I made sure the piece was getting made, I was involved with the budget process, the manafacturing of the video, the delivery of the video, and all of the little bits of communication that needs to occur between the client and the producer of the material.

Former Career in News

I used to be in the hustle and bustle of news. I worked for a cable news channel, originally as a videographer and editor. I could shoot full stories, bits of stories, alone or with a reporter, interviews, press conferences, live shots as well as edit stories.

After doing that for a little bit I transferred to Live Truck Engineer. I was responsible for sending back video live from wherever I was needed. I would assist reporters sending back pre-taped material, help set up live cameras, diagnose and repair equipment, insure on time delivery of material, act as a liason from the field to the newsroom, and assorted activities.

Doing the live truck was fun for the three years that I did it, but eventually it became a little mundane; the work was repetative, the only variable were mistakes and locations/stories.

A position opened up that I jumped at once I got confidence in myself; helicopter photographer. I always loved aviation; I even considered getting my private pilot's license before, training and studying on the ground before I realized the financials were too much. I got the job, and at first it was lots of fun, flying all around the New York, New Jersey, Connecticut area doing various stories. Fires one day, Bus accidents the next. Flood areas to traffic jams. The hours, however, were extremely difficult, and the problem in my organization was that I was the link from the network to the sky. I was called all the time, middle of the nights, weekends, and I never had a chance for my own time.

I am glad for the experience that I got, however that lifestyle was no longer for me. I transferred to my current job, completely severed myself from news, and I am much happier for it. The people in my new job aren't jaded and recognize my efforts; in news everyone is so harried that nothing is really appreciated. The skills I learned, however, are still with me, and I find that I can communicate and work faster because of my years in that section of the broadcast industry.
