Model 100

Another one of my hobbies is computing. I felt it was only right to be typing this section on my Tandy Model 100 Laptop that I have... I love this little guy... No boot-up time, easy on and off, runs on 4 "AA" batteries. Of course it is terribly impratical at 32k, a whizzing 8085 - 2.7mhz processor, and a screen 40 characters by 8 lines... but it does have heart, huh?

The first time I bought this little critter it wasn't so old, 1987 or so, and was my first real computer... I sold it to upgrade to and IBM and was the biggest mistake I have ever made. So a few years later, when I had the cash, I procured another. Now I have raided all available resources for software and am starting to intergrate it into my daily life. True, I can't function with its' built in 300 baud modem anymore, but I can use its' serial port to upload to my desktop.

Now I write things here and there, such as this page, and upload it later. Then I can print or publish it anyway I choose. Useful indeed. As my friends wait three minutes to boot up Windows on their pleasure machines, I have already turned on the model 100, typed what I needed. No need to save, the memory is always engaged.

Its' more of a hobby thing than a useful timesaver, but there are functional programs for it, and what other computer can you think of that the majority of its' users can program for it? I know I can rattle of a program on this little guy, push came to shove... can you do that for your Pentium laptop?

Poqet PC

The little Poqet PC is the newest toy in the collection. It was made around 1990, and is a small MS-Dos machine. No windows on this puppy, it has an 8088 processor, and barely competes with anything today. However, it runs for 60 hours or so on two AA batteries

Generic Intel

My desktop computer is a AMD K6 450. I have a quickcam attached, a scanner, a zip drive, a DVD Player, an editing system, 64 megs of ram, plus a smattering of other things I can't even think of right now. My supercomputer keeps on growing everyday. My computer kicks ass.Read more about the specifics here.

Atari 800

My first computer ever was an Atari 800, and unfortunately, I cannot write much about this beast. Anyone who ever owned one, however, can remember opening up the "special" lid and pulling out the two pound 16k card, marvelling at all the wonder that lays inside.

Nowadays it sits under the stairs in the basement. Or does it? I have it running up full speed on my desktop computer with an excellent program called Atari800Win; no longer am I relegated to booting up the old girl; I can dabble when I please on my regular system, and I have almost every game for the thing at my disposal now! Which leads to the next section...

Emulators

These programs trick your computer into thinking it is a different computer. So what? Well, All those great arcade games from your past like Donkey Kong can live on exactly the way you remember them on your PC. Remember Pitfall? I've got it and love it. These things are so cool that all I do is play with these monkeys, giving up on Duke Nukem or Quake. Pitfall is a hard game, y'all! Donkey Kong is easy to master, but the original Mario Brothers intrigues me for hours. Some of the games remind me of my mostly forgotten childhood, "Oh wow! I remember this game!" Pengo? Mr. Do? Tempest? Battlezone!? Anything that ever ran on the Atari 2600? This stuff is too cool. Check out the links, and start downloading. I have game console systems I never could afford as a kid. Sega's, Vectrex, Atari's, they all now live happily on my computer, and I love playing some old school games while I download files. And they make me remember the good old times, where ten bucks could entertain you for hours.
