The Orthotics Scam

PE02369_.WMF (2240 bytes)You know, I was having terrible trouble with my ankles. I went to the podiatrist, and he discovered one leg is shorter than the other, and with that, my ankles were being affected. A toe of mine went arthritic due to the feet changing position due to the limb discrepancy. He gave me Celebrex for the arthritis, a couple of shots in the foot, and a prescription for Orthotics, which he said would align my feet and compensate for the differences nature gave me and return me to optimal efficiency.

However, custom Orthotics cost $500. Most insurance plans won't cover them. Mine did, but you had to pay upfront. I told the doctor I needed time, so I went and did some searches. You know what I found out? The price is inflated astronomically. I was able to find a few sources that sell directly to the public at a cheap price, and they are the same custom insert that the doctor would sell you, for hundreds less. I will give you the link to the only one I have had experience with, www.ourfootdoctor.com . They are a bit slower since it is mail order, but the kit was easy to follow, and the product has helped me stay on my feet longer without discomfort.
