Cheap DVD's and how to get themI have a lot of DVD's... more than 200 at the moment, which isn't as much as some, but I would wager that it is more than average. People often wonder how I acquired so many, that it must have cost a small fortune. The trick is to buy cheap, and spot deals. The first place you should look for titles is at Blockbuster, in the previously viewed section. There have been several titles I wanted, but I had a price in mind, and wouldn't budge from it. If it is a popular title, within a month or two of release, it will be there, believe me. If it doesn't have cover art, you can usually find it online, by checking out www.mega-search.net, or going to some of the online dvd stores and grabbing the front and back covers there. Or of course you could just live with no cover. The Second place is online. You are here, so you must know how to do that. Check out www.dvdpricesearch.net, and look for what you want; they will tell you the lowest place to purchase online. If you pre-order the title before it is released, you usually will save quite a bit more. Some good stores to purchase from is deepdiscountdvd and buy.com. Even amazon can be good for harder to find titles. Used online is a great deal as well, if you are looking for a slightly older title. Half.com has great deals, Amazon.com has great used dvd's as well sometimes, and ebay can occasionally give good results. The DVDTalk forum has an exchange area where I have traded things I didn't like, or grew tired of, and sometimes people have things for sale there that are good. The last place to look is at your local stores. Sometimes there are closeouts, and you can snag a disc really cheap, or there is a local promotion that is too good to pass up. Usually the first week at BestBuy is better than you can get online for really popular titles. If you check your Sunday paper, there are odd deals at stores you wouldn't go to, but you can use to pricematch; this is how we got Harry Potter for $9. I would say that most of my movies were no more that $15, with many of them being under $10. The deals are there, you just have to work. Most online stores have coupons, and you can use these savings to your advantage, but you have to read up a bit. I find out deals at DVDTalk and DVDPriceSearch, and I usually have a rough idea when movies will be released to find the best deal. Good luck. |
