Interior

The interior was very bad, so I basically just gutted everything. Ripped out the seats, door panels, everything. There are some issues with the floorboards. I sanded off what rust I could by hand and with a little 4" grinder.  And then I spray painted everything with Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer. It's supposed to be made with some kind of fish oil that penetrates into the rust. And its cheap. Eventually. I'm going to weld in some patches and fix the floor right, but for now, I just screwed down some sheetmetal over the holes.

I painted the whole dash with the rusty primer. Then I did the bottom part with Rustoleum White Appliance Enamel  in a spray can. Looks really good, kind of like a refrigerator.

Here it is on the kitchen table after doing the top half. I got some paint from Tractor Supply Co. along with some of their hardener. (Supposed to make the paint glossy and dry faster.) This is the first thing I've tried it on and it came out pretty good, except for a bug or two that flew into it!

Here it is reinstalled. You can see the Plymouth steering wheel in this picture. I also replaced all the wiring under the dash while I was at it. That's about where I am now with the interior. Still need to paint some trim pieces that go on the doors and other spots.

I got some burgandy seat covers off of ebay for $25, and put those on. Better than the rat-gnawed old stuff anyway.

Fortunately, the frames are in good shape. I reused this burlap looking pad stuff, and put on some new 1" thick foam and some heavy cloth.

These covers are designed to go over the originals. If possible. leave them on! Especially on the seat backs.

At least I can stand to sit in it now.
